Hi, I’ve been given some land. The idea is to install an ablution block,  and then gradually add small cabins. Any advice on septic and water tanks?

First of all you need to approach council and see if you need a permit. A drain layer will need one anyway. The sizing of the tank will depend on how many cabins you have. There a lot of options but you can't beat the good old "box in the ground" type as there is not a lot to go wrong. If you are lucky enough to have free draining soil, that's a bonus as the drainage field is quite costly to install. In the summertime you tend to end up with stripes of green grass where the drainage pipes are, not such a good look. If you are looking at a type of "campground" situation the water supply will be a bit more stringent and may need testing annually. The usual plastic 30k litre tank should suffice depending on your water source. What about power to the site?

5 acres, Ferguson 35X and implements, Hanmay pto shredder, BMW Z3, Countax ride on mower, chooks, Dorper and Wiltshire sheep. Bosky wood burning central heating stove and radiators. Retro caravan. Growing our own food and preserving it. Small vineyard, crap wine. :)
