Plant ID and Kōwhai Question

Hi
Anyone want to ID this tree for me?

I have lots of these dotted around the bush reserve that borders the river on my property edge.
They have to be 4 metres or taller.
I am picking that they are plums but they are very small.

Kōwhai question is...
If Kōwhai is meant to be poisonous then someone forgot to tell the ewes and lambs grazing my property.
They dont seem to have any problem grazing the plant free of leaves and shoots.
I have watched them nibbling away at the Kōwhai...not for a long time... but as each of them have a nibble there is not
a single small tree left that hasn't been chewed back to twigs.
Thanks
Richard

Hi
Ignore Kōwhai question.
It was Yellow Broom they were eating....I am stupid at times.

yes, I think they are just wild plums, they cross pollinate and you end up with all sorts, but generally small plums. You could graft something else on the tree if you want to keep it.

5 acres, Ferguson 35X and implements, Hanmay pto shredder, BMW Z3, Countax ride on mower, chooks, Dorper and Wiltshire sheep. Bosky wood burning central heating stove and radiators. Retro caravan. Growing our own food and preserving it. Small vineyard, crap wine. :)

Hi
Thanks for confirming that.
As there are probably 12 or more of these trees dotted around the place.
I will just leave them to feed the local birds.
Thanks

How big are the plum stones? Have you tried them for taste? You might have a new sensation! Damsons are tiny, aren't they, and people love them?

Hi
Stones are large and fruit are OK.
Sweet but not that much flavor.
Best just leave them to the birds.:)
Thanks
Richard
