Andy was a Pekin duck we.... "rescued" .... 10 plus years ago. We went all the way to Titirangi to collect him. He came with a couple of leghorn girls as he had grown up with them and the owner thought it was mean to separate them, bonus for us, we got the eggs.:-)
One of the leghorns has passed but the other is still going strong.

He has had to be confined to a large pen for his own safety, along with my last two Indian Runner ducks living out their lives. The hen has also been partially sighted for some years but her devoted partner keeps her company and makes sure she get to the feed bowls and gets her share.

Andy has an old bath as his pond, with his own special ramp so he could climb out on his own.

Sadly, Andy was found dead in the bath this morning. :-( We assume he got in and got so waterlogged he could not float as he should have. The night was cold, so I guess hypothermia would have set in.

Twice every day we have called Andy, lifted him to the food bowls and made sure he has a good feed in among all the other free loading mallards.
He became very trusting and did not struggle when you picked him up. He also got his face, beak and even his lamella filters brushed washed and washed each week as he was a typical male, bathed only when he had to.

He will be missed. :-(

There are no bad questions only those that are not asked.
